Karen is a Senior Consultant with PSTG’s Health Practice.  Karen has excellent strategic and operational planning, as well as policy development skills acquired in her 10 years in the Ontario Public Service.  Karen’s experience is complimented by her BSc (Honours) from Queen’s University and her MHSc – Health Administration from University of Toronto.

During her time in the Ontario Public Service, Karen worked across various areas including her role as Senior Policy Advisor to three Deputy Ministers of Health.  One key to her success was her ability to resolve complex issues by knowing who to engage from external stakeholders to central government agencies.

In addition, Karen’s experience spans the spectrum of health care.  Karen led the allocation of MRI services across the province, and participated in the development of funding methodologies for dialysis services using evidenced based methodologies.  Karen also implemented the Convalescent Care Beds program in Long-Term Care Homes to address Alternate Level of Care (ALC) pressures in hospitals.  Most recently, Karen oversaw the development of a public health initiative within acute care settings that merited international recognition by the World Health Organization.   Karen’s experience across the health continuum speaks to her ability to seek strategic opportunities for integration.

Karen also has excellent policy development skills through the preparation of cabinet submissions.  She also anticipates and resolves issues prior the approvals process. Karen has worked with senior staff, including Assistant Deputy Ministers, Deputy Ministers, and Ministers on key government commitments on a variety of submissions including a $100M submission - the 10 Point Emergency Plan that included prevention initiatives as well as initiatives for Long Term Care, Hospitals, and Ambulance Services.

Karen loves building practical solutions to complex, complicated problems including those presented to her by her son!
